Organic, Social & Fair Trade Standard. The coconut oil we use in our biscuits does not come from a local source since coconuts don’t grow in Britain. The supplier we use however, founded the company in the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami as a new revenue source for the Sri Lankan economy and that makes us feel really good. There is good karma all over this oil! The reason why we decided to use coconut oil in our biscuits? For a lot of reasons actually. One is that it is a heat stable oil which means its wellness based properties do not degrade when heat from the baking process is introduced. This is different to other oils, like extra virgin olive oil which may have amazing health benefits at cooler temperatures but do not always stand up to cooking or baking heat. Additionally, virgin coconut oil is a Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT) fat, with many unique health properties which distinguish virgin coconut oil from the saturated fats found in meat and vegetable oils. MCTs are known to help speed up the metabolic process and may lower the risk of both atherosclerosis and heart disease. Coconut oil can help boost energy, support weight loss, encourage healthy digestion, help to heal wounds and boost brain function. It is believed that the lauric acid content in coconut oil can also act as a natural flea repellent. We are so proud to use organic coconut oil, especially one that supports social & fair trade standards in our biscuits as it is such a wellness oriented ingredient.

REPEL BUGS NATURALLY... With the summer months now upon us, bugs and ticks are out in full force and can prove to be a menace to all. Did you know that Geranium Essential Oil can be used as a natural bug repellent? We place 3 drops of oil on the inside of our dog's collar and not only does he smell divine, but we find that it really does keep the bugs away. *Please note that essential oil in full concentration can be a skin irritant so it should never go directly on skin. If your dog does not have a thick coat of fur, you can place 3 drops of geranium essential oil in 1 Tbsp. of coconut oil and mix together. You can use the oil directly on the coat, particularly around the neck and where the tail meets the spine. Consider using it on yourself as well! We love local British brands Tisserand (www.tisserand.com) & Baldwins (www.baldwins.co.uk) for essential oils as their products are pure and cruelty-free!
